Investigative Report on the Falsification of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and its Psychological and Spiritual Impact Upon Christians
by Dr. Eric vonAnderseck, Th.D., D.D.
Report Title:
Falsifying the Gospel of Jesus Christ
|
Gal.1:6 - 9. "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel.
7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ."
8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."
9. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." In other words, those who embrace any other gospel than that which God delivered to the church through living apostles are embracing a perverted gospel and have removed themselves from the grace of God.
These are legitimate questions, but difficult for most Christians to answer. 99% of all Christians claim through their experience that truth is progressive and therefore they do not have a whole, complete understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They are misled to “search” the scriptures for truth, when they should be reading the scriptures to reflect on Christ as they abide in truth. They are misdirected to piece together the meaning of faith as best they can with the pieces they have on hand. When faced with contradiction they are encouraged to rethink their position and make adjustments to their theology. Truth is accepted “in part” to mitigate the paradox of a truth that shifts with each new revelation. Christians had to accept the principles of faith evolution in an effort to normalize the existence of many conflicting truths about Jesus and try to fit what they could into a coherent gospel. If you are in the 99% group, believing that truth is in part that means that you would not know the difference between truth and error. How would you know if the gospel you embraced was perverted? It would then stand to reason that you would not know that you are removed from Christ because your form of conditioning through religious traditions tells you that you are still joined to Him. How much error in faith perverts the gospel and removes you from the grace of God? The apostle Paul said, "A little leaven leavens the whole lump" (1 Cor.5:6). This is not debatable, a little bit of error mixed into truth makes truth error. Error begets error. Truth begets truth. This is why the apostle Paul spoke of those who “frustrate the grace of God' (Gal.2:21), and those who “turn the truth of God into a lie” (Rom.1:25). The apostle Jude spoke of “turning the grace of God into lasciviousness” (Jude 4). These deny the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Christians do not deny the historical facts surrounding the Son of God. This is why the apostle Paul wrote in Gal.1:7 that the perverted gospel is not another gospel, people are still preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. People are still confessing that Jesus died on the cross, shedding His blood for the sins of the world, and that He rose again from the dead on the third day, and ascended into heaven after 40 days. People still preach that there is no other way to God but through Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life. These facts are true and embraced by Christian denominations. This is what the apostle Paul meant when he said that the perverted gospel was not another gospel. These facts themselves are not perverted. The perversion takes place when people take these facts and build another foundation with them, then faith is subverted, brought in a direction that God did not intend. Paul wrote in Gal.1:6, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel.” What are some of the signs of faith being removed from the grace of God? 1. Believers’ lack of understanding the dynamics of pattern recognition When the gospel no longer represents Jesus Christ believers speak in ambiguous terms about the pattern of their faith. Pattern Recognition in relation to gospel of Jesus Christ takes place in five critical areas (1) the pattern of truth in Jesus Christ (2) the pattern of sin and death (3) the pattern of Moses (4) the pattern of the soul, and (5) the pattern of the human signature. Pattern Recognition provides cognitive faith choices. Lack of pattern recognition leads to leadership prioritization of programs based on congregational needs rather than the truth of Christ and therefore a shifting of focus to stay current with needs. The grace of God does not enter into these efforts and frustration and program recall is inevitable. In summary, when the church was severed from the Headship of Jesus Christ and living apostles no longer stewarded the doctrine of Christ, Christians could no longer distinguish between the pattern of Christ in truth and the pattern of their own signature, the pattern of Moses, and the pattern of sin and death. Faith was not sustained by God’s grace and another power worked with another gospel to try to implement spiritual goals. Knowledge that is separated from the covenant produces faith that is separated from the grace of God. What impact did continued failure have upon the mind and the emotions of believers? Typical responses:
2. Program engagement with no spiritual emancipation When the gospel no longer represents Jesus Christ faith participants talk about what the scriptures say about living free from sin, but do not experience that freedom. Faith practitioners promised spiritual emancipation, yet did not provide the tools for spiritual reconstruction. Repeated failure produces “burnout” for both faith practitioner and learner. My research shows that despite leadership experience with the phenomena of “burnout,” they felt obligated to continue to offer an endless array of new programs yearly to try to move forward with their spiritual goals regardless of failure. When believers embrace the many discipleship models, programs, books, and sermons to engage themselves with the protocols of faith that promise them what they are looking for, and then experience outcome that did not match prediction they face many questions, doubts, and frustrations. Differences in the objectives of the two standards lead to differing emphasis in the accountability process. Knowledge that is separated from the covenant produces faith that is separated from the grace of God. What impact did continued failure have upon the mind and the emotions of believers? Typical responses:
3. Believers report that change in behavior did not change their nature When I asked Christians about their ability to change their thinking patterns, attitudes, and behaviors through scripture reading and church programs all those surveyed admitted that this was possible, but the changes were accompanied by paradoxes. They complained about the short-term aspect of these changes, citing their disappointment that the changes of behavior did not translate into a change of their nature. Survey responses were trans-denominational, meaning that the respondents came from varied religious backgrounds as well as most themselves having been engaged in doctrine, discipline, and programs of more than one belief system. 100% of those surveyed did at one time have a genuine conversion experience and could relate to a tremendous touch of God’s grace upon their lives that impacted their soul deeply. However, all reported the inability to understand their experience nor knew how to sustain it. Some were able to make life altering changes before going to church, but realized that change alone did not satisfy the hunger of their heart nor produce the virtues of Christ within. Typical complaints centered on lack of understanding and lack of sustainability. Typical response: “When I decided to change my life I started a quest for God and looked towards him for new life in Jesus. The first thing I looked at was the changes that I would need to be making and how I would learn new habits for Godly character. I was taught to lean on the Holy Spirit. I was committed to attend church, and take part in all the other activities, including intercessory prayer. Although I was committed to church services, following after every seminar and conference, it was without lasting results. I was in the continual motion of changing my habits, hoping for better results, but these things only kept me busy and did not provide the expected and promised results. I was looking for something more, not only changes on the surface (shell), but for a living relationship with God, that would give me a complete perspective and understanding of the will of God and His purpose for my life.
What I am saying is that although I was able to make adjustments and change my life, my nature did not change. Old things had the tendency to creep back when least expected. I found this ‘life change’ to involve projecting an image of one self to others, and though I want to believe that I did change, the burden of this yoke was too much to bear. I had to admit to myself that although I had good intentions and even being sincere in my efforts, I was just the same person. I was a defeated Christian. The enthusiasm and passion and zeal I’d begun my journey with, subside into a mere empty void and I was more lost than ever. I was subjected to many challenges, but the fact that I changed my habits had no influence on these outside forces which only reminded me that I was not living the overcoming life that was promised to me. I knew something was missing but did not know what. Tired of living this endless cycle of changing the one set of habits for another eventually forced me to leave church and admit failure. Again I was in search of God.” Faith participants are able to engage themselves deeply with spiritual programs and tools that promise to help facilitate change. Some behavior changes are beneficial, they are life altering. However, faith participants were disappointed and disillusioned when the behavior change did not translate into a much needed and expected change in nature. When the gospel is perverted (changed) to reflect the tradition of man rather than the righteousness of Jesus Christ the Spirit of God no longer carries the work of Christ within the soul. the Spirit of God will not facilitate spiritual transformation on any terms other than the terms Jesus shed His blood to provide, all other doctrine and discipline must then be maintained apart from God’s active involvement. Because the knowledge base of failed faith models is removed from the Creator, remedial soul treatment is removed from the Creator. The doctrine and discipline then works against the soul, and much exploitation does take place under these circumstances. |
